Sometimes, however, the waste occurs, not because of poor judgement on the part of government officials, but because of plain citizen thoughtlessness. Such an incident on Lake Michigan recently cost taxpayers almost $25,000. On Monday, August 5, Coast Guard Station Charlevoix received a distress call from boaters reporting that their vessel was on fire near South Fox Island.
