Summary

In April 1962, the Beaver Beacon reported that the Beaver Island Boat Company was negotiating to lease the Emerald Isle to Straits Transit Company for a Mackinaw City–Mackinac Island run. The May issue separately announced a $68,000 conditional sale to Arnold Transit Lines for a Mackinac Island run.

Evidence and limits

The notices record proposed transactions only. They name different counterparties and do not establish a completed lease, sale, transfer of operation, closing date, or voyage schedule.

Sources

  1. Beaver Beacon, April 1962, “Beaver Island Boat Company.”
Reports negotiations under way to lease Emerald Isle to Straits Transit Company for service between Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island. It does not establish that a lease was signed or that the proposed service began.
  2. Beaver Beacon, May 1962, “Beaver Islander.”
Reports a separate later announcement that Emerald Isle was sold to Arnold Transit Lines for $68,000, conditional on delivery of Beaver Islander, for the Mackinac Island run. The two reports name different counterparties; this article does not reconcile them or treat either proposed transfer as completed.
