Summary

The July 1965 Beaver Beacon records a day excursion across Garden Island. The route passed through Garden and Indian Harbors, the Indian burial ground, the Sugar Bush trail, the Larsen homestead and cemetery, and the remains of the school and Catholic church before the travelers fished and returned to Beaver Island.

Evidence and limits

This first-person feature is valuable evidence for what a local visitor observed and how the sites were interpreted in 1965. It does not identify the travelers, give an exact date, establish ownership, or prove that every structure had the history assigned to it in the narrative.

Open questions

  • Who wrote the feature and made the trip?
  • Which archaeological, cemetery, school, church, or land records could verify the sites and their condition?
