Summary
The August 1968 Beaver Beacon reported that John D. Murphy’s rented boat went missing from St. James Harbor during strong northwest winds. The boat was found overturned off the north end of Garden Island the next day; Coast Guard helicopters, private planes, volunteers, and a shore search found boat debris but no sign of Murphy, who was presumed drowned at publication.
