Fifteen sailboats participated in the third annual LaBlance Memorial Cup Race from Charlevoix to St. James on July 9–10, 1988. The Beaver Beacon’s August reprint describes a slow, hot outbound trip with little wind and a quicker, rougher return in stronger winds and rain squalls.
