Summary

In April 2019, AMVETS Post 46 reported that flags had been raised at Beaver Island Veterans Park and that the Marine flag honored John “Red” Rowley. The post also announced a planned Memorial Day reading of veterans’ names. A later forum participant described the May 27 ceremony as touching and well attended.

Evidence limits

This is a direct veterans’ organization notice supplemented by community testimony. It does not preserve the complete program, attendance count, or an independently verified Coast Guard flyover.

Sources

  1. AMVETS reported that the flags were flying, credited Alvin LaFreniere with raising them, and said the Marine flag honored recently deceased John “Red” Rowley. It announced a Memorial Day reading of names of veterans who had died during the previous year. The post documents the plan, not the later ceremony or complete list of names.

  2. AMVETS announced an 11 a.m. May 27 ceremony, a possible Coast Guard flyover subject to weather and mission requirements, and a roll of veterans who died during the prior year. A May 28 participant described the ceremony as touching and well attended; this is community testimony, not an attendance count or official program record.

  3. AMVETS reported lowering the Veterans Park flags to half-staff in honor of Chuck Carpenter, a fellow veteran and former Marine. This is a first-party veterans-organization notice; it does not document the duration or any formal proclamation.
