Summary
Nonsuch II was a full-sized replica of the seventeenth-century square-rigged ship Nonsuch. The July 1971 Beaver Beacon says it was launched in Devon on August 26, 1968, and later visited Beaver Island.
History
The newspaper says the replica was built in England for the Hudson’s Bay Company’s 1970 tercentenary celebrations. It identifies the original Nonsuch as the ship that sailed from the Thames on June 3, 1668, but those historical claims are preserved here as the newspaper’s account rather than independently expanded into a vessel history.
Evidence and limits
The held source supplies the vessel name, replica status, launch date, and a short 1971 visit report. It does not establish an official number, dimensions, owner, builder record, or later disposition beyond the report’s statement that the vessel was destined for permanent display in Winnipeg.
