Summary
Baedke and Thompson’s 1993 preliminary report investigates late-Holocene Lake Michigan level variation through beach ridges, cores, and dunes at Platte Bay in the northern basin. It provides a clear methodological comparison for reading relict shorelines in the Beaver Island archipelago.
Evidence and limits
The authors explicitly test whether curves derived in southern Lake Michigan apply elsewhere in the lake. Their study site is Platte Bay, not Beaver Island. It therefore supports the proposition that beach ridges can preserve a lake-level record and that regional transfer must be tested; it does not date, elevate, classify, or assign a Lake Michigan phase to any Beaver Island ridge.
