Summary
The Beaver Island Township Airport millage failed by eight votes in the August 6, 2002 primary, returned to the November ballot, and passed in the November 5 general election by 103 to 65 in Peaine Township. The September Beacon emphasized the airport’s role in airline continuity, emergency flights, weather backup, and Island development; October and November added public appeals and details about its federal improvements. The December issue records the resulting 0.5741-mill Airport Fund levy.
