Summary

On June 20, 2006, eight participants crossed Lake Michigan from Cross Village to Beaver Island in a tribal jiimaan as part of the Odawa Institute’s Eighth Annual Jiibaakwe Celebration. After roughly seven hours of difficult paddling against shifting wind and waves, they accepted a tow from the Tribal Search and Rescue team and arrived at the tribal dock in St. James Bay.
