Summary

The May and June 2011 Beacon issues describe the next phase of the Rural Health Center’s Wellness Garden Plan. The July issue adds the tour’s ticket structure and the active auction, including the Ellen’s Stars quilt, a cherry plant stand, local art, and a Beaver Island Bounty Basket. The August issue reports the tour’s attendance and seven garden stops and records the project’s extensive thanks to contributors; it announces a September garden party but does not document its completion. The November issue reports that more than 45 people attended the October 2 Wellness Garden Walk and describes the growing network of themed gardens, paths, donated plants, and artwork around Forest View Senior Apartments and the Health Center. A 2012 organizer follow-up documents another garden walk and social, with five crabapple trees donated for the grounds. The December 2012 Beacon reports a planned scrapbook in the Health Center lobby to preserve photographs and coverage of the garden’s five-year transformation.

Evidence limits

The Beacon reports a project and fundraising effort. The August issue confirms the tour occurred and gives participation figures, but not auction results, garden completion, or the later garden party; the December notice documents a planned scrapbook, not its completion or contents.
