Summary

The second installment of the Civic Association’s retrospective, printed in the July 1983 Beaver Beacon, describes its 1950s response to a proposed loss of telephone service and a range of community, road, harbor, conservation, and social activities.

Evidence limits

This is a retrospective published by the association’s newsletter. It does not replace Bell Telephone records, a local-company charter, township minutes, construction or dock records, or a complete event calendar.

Sources

  1. The retrospective says the Civic responded to the Coast Guard's 1957 telephone-service discontinuation notice by forming a committee and working with Bell Telephone on a local company; it also describes the Game Club as an early Civic committee, trail and road repair, sinking old cars as fishing structures, help with the Yacht Dock and picnic-table materials, cedar planting around the church in 1959, a Dawn Patrol, and a square dance. It is a self-reported newspaper history, not a committee file, telephone-company charter, dock record, work log, or event register. The holding institution's portal restricts automated access; the archive holds a copy of this issue and can provide it on request.
