Summary

From December 2018 through February 2019, the Charlevoix County Commission on Aging reported that Dawn George was leaving her Beaver Island role and that Kathie Ehinger would take over the split school/COA position. The updates also described limited use of existing in-home and wellness programs, a new client-reassurance phone program, meal-voucher agreements, and a Community Center office lease. The February update said the in-home program still had fewer than a handful of users and no CNA requests, that no county senior snow-removal program was available that winter, and that the COA office was planned to move from the Community Center to the new county building on Donegal Bay Road effective March 1. The March update then reported the office at 26466 Donegal Bay Road, with 8 a.m.–5 p.m. weekday hours, while continuing to report low program uptake and a reevaluation of meal vouchers.

Evidence limits

This is a first-party institutional update relayed in the forum. It is stronger than participant commentary for the stated staffing and program status, but it does not establish later implementation, enrollment, or service outcomes.

Sources

  1. The notice said the Commission on Aging menu was available at Stoney for lunch and dinner. This confirms a local meal-voucher access point, but does not establish the menu, voucher eligibility, or uptake.

  2. The notice linked the Charlevoix County COA information page, invited residents to complete a service survey through Dawn at the Community Center, and said the school was offering COA meal vouchers to people over 60. This is a local informational notice; the linked county page and service records are stronger evidence for current eligibility or implementation.

  3. The County COA executive director’s update reported Dawn George’s departure, Kathie Ehinger’s appointment and transition, limited use of the in-home reimbursement and wellness-check programs, a new client-reassurance phone program, meal-voucher contract status, and a Community Center/PABI office lease update. It is an institutional public update, but the forum copy does not include the attached newsletter or verify later service delivery.

  4. The January institutional update reports that the in-home reimbursement and wellness-check programs still had little or no uptake, confirms meal-voucher renewals with the school and island restaurants, and reiterates COA office hours and monthly Sunday dinners. It updates reported program status but does not provide enrollment records or outcome measures.

  5. The county executive director reported that the in-home reimbursement program still had fewer than a handful of users and no CNA requests, two people had expressed interest in wellness checks, and there would be no Charlevoix County senior snow-removal program that winter. She announced termination of the Community Center lease effective March 1 and a planned move to the new county building on Donegal Bay Road, plus updated office hours and meal-voucher documentation requirements. This is a first-party institutional update, but it does not establish later uptake, service outcomes, or the exact move date.

  6. The county executive director reported that the Beaver Island COA office was now at 26466 Donegal Bay Road with 8 a.m.–5 p.m. weekday hours, confirmed continued low use of the in-home reimbursement program and two wellness-check interests, and said meal-voucher services were being reevaluated. It is a first-party institutional update, but does not establish later service outcomes or the success of the proposed program changes.

  7. The local COA notice announced the new office at 26466 Donegal Bay Road beside the library and supplied a new phone number. This is a first-party operational notice and corroborates the March 6 update, but does not establish later office hours or service outcomes.

  8. The COA solicited volunteers for meal delivery, Sunday-dinner hosting, kitchen work, classes, presentations, exercise programs, and music, and sought entertainment for a May 19 volunteer-appreciation dinner. This documents an institutional recruitment request, not actual volunteer participation or program capacity.
