The January 2012 Beaver Beacon reports that Dennis Banks and a friend made a large buffalo-hide Anishinaabe dance drum and brought it to Beaver Island after a ceremony in late 2011. The published account says it was entrusted to a local caretaker under rules requiring respectful, ceremonial treatment.

Evidence limits and cultural care

This record preserves only the public newspaper account. It does not reproduce private ceremonial knowledge or treat the article’s historical origin story as an independently verified account of Anishinaabe tradition.
