Summary
In a message posted at his request after Mass on June 7, 2015, Father Jim Doherty said he had met Bishop Steven Raica and decided to retire from administering parishes because of his age and health/heart concerns. He said the retirement would take effect June 8 and that he hoped to serve mainland parishes as a sacramental minister. Forum members simultaneously organized a support campaign and a prayer vigil.
Evidence limits
Father Jim’s own statement is the strongest held evidence for his stated reason and effective date. Other posts say he was bullied or “run off”; those posts preserve an important community controversy but do not prove that conflict caused his retirement.
