Summary
The February 2013 through April-May 2014 Beaver Beacon issues report that St. James Township received Great Lakes Fishery Trust support for engineering design of a fishing pier at its new property in front of the Sheriff’’s substation, acquired through the Whiskey Island trade. The September and October issues report further grant-application work, including a two-stage fishing-pier and boat-launch plan estimated at approximately $675,000. The January 2014 issue reports that the latest Great Lakes Fishery Trust application was not funded and that the larger pier was removed from the plan pending other funding, while a boat launch, parking area, and possible small pier remained. In March, Northwest Design Group presented a four-phase proposal and the Board authorized applications for phase-one funding. The April-May issue reports the public hearing, a $450,000 phase-one estimate, and approval to apply for Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund support.
