Summary

In February 1904, Beaver Island worker Frank Sherman attempted to cross from Hog Island toward the mainland and became disoriented in a blizzard. Contemporary accounts reproduced by the Beacon say he was found nearly frozen and survived with help from a man heading to a fish shanty.

Evidence limits

The column reproduces multiple contemporary accounts with differing details; it is not a modern reconstruction of the route or meteorological conditions.
