Summary

The September 1955 Beaver Beacon reports that R. P. Hoffman and A. J. Roy had purchased the Old Mormon Print Shop and, with Beaver Island Civic Association cooperation, organized a Historical Society. It lists temporary board and committee assignments and appeals for contributions toward restoration of the Print Shop.

Evidence and limits

The report is strong evidence of a 1955 organizing effort, but it is not a charter, deed, restoration ledger, accession register, or complete membership record. The article therefore records the reported formation without silently resolving the Society’s legal status or institutional continuity.

Sources

  1. Reports R. P. Hoffman and A. J. Roy’s purchase of the Old Mormon Print Shop, organization of the Historical Society with Civic Association cooperation, temporary committees, a restoration-fund appeal, board membership, and a tour of Dr. Protar’s house and relics. It does not provide a charter, deed, financial ledger, accession register, or later institutional continuity record. The holding institution's portal restricts automated access; the archive holds a copy of this issue and can provide it on request.

  2. The held five-page issue scan is paired with the OCR source and confirms the published formation and restoration appeal; it does not expand the Society’s legal or financial record.
