Summary

The 2003 Beaver Island Homecoming ran August 8-10, again centered on the Bud McDonough Memorial softball tournament, which that year was won by an off-island team, TDS Telecom of Spring Lake.

Program

Softball. Eight teams competed. TDS Telecom of Spring Lake finished 1st (scoring 17 runs in one inning at one point), Gray Gables of Charlevoix 2nd, and Bergman Marine of Charlevoix 3rd. The reigning 2002 champion, McDonough’s Market, did not place among the top three.

Related gathering. A “Lumbarr Yarrd Party” was calendared for Powers’ Lumberyard on August 10, alongside the weekend’s other activities.

Evidence limits

No dinner, dance, or organizing body is reported for 2003 in the held issues; the softball tournament is the only programmatic element documented in detail. A Letters column complains about a heavy State Police presence during the weekend, useful only as color evidence that the weekend drew a large crowd.

Open questions

  • Was a parish dinner or dance held in 2003? No held issue reports one.
