Snow and ice disrupted Beaver Island in late January 2014. The Chamber of Commerce reported that it was not possible to drive from Allens Lakeview Road to town and closed its office. Beaver Island Community School also cancelled classes because of snow, forcing a planned mentor/student ice-cream social to be rescheduled for January 29.

The forum preserves contemporaneous local impacts and community observations, but not an official snowfall total, road report, or complete school-closure log.

Sources

  1. The Chamber reported that travel from Allens Lakeview Road to town was not possible and that its office was closed. This is contemporaneous local impact reporting, not a road-maintenance log or weather-station measurement.

  2. Participants described severe snow and ice and joked about measuring accumulation; the later “138” figure is attributed to a participant and has no instrument, location, or official source attached. It is not treated as a verified snowfall total.

  3. The school notice said classes were cancelled because of snow and that the mentor ice-cream social would likely move to January 29; the January 24 notice confirmed the rescheduled program. This is first-party school notice evidence of an operational impact, not a complete closure log.

  4. The follow-up scheduled the mentor/student ice-cream social for January 29 after the earlier snow-related cancellation. It establishes the rescheduled announcement, not attendance or program outcome.
