Summary

On April 8, 2000, thirty representatives from twelve Beaver Island organizations attended the second island Leadership Retreat. It was sponsored by the Community School, Rural Health Center, and Preservation Association, with Anne Glendon serving as consultant. Participants identified recurring needs for recruiting people, developing leadership, managing growth and seasonal swings, raising funds, and improving communication.

The retreat also discussed reducing duplicated services, consolidating township government services, strengthening coordination among organizations, islandwide planning, senior services, and preserving the island’s natural beauty. The participants agreed the meeting should lead to coordinated planning and an annual follow-up.
