Summary

The May 1983 Beaver Beacon marked fifty years since Lloyd and Eva McDonough acquired the island general store on May 6, 1933. It traced the business through the earlier lumber-company store and John Grill’s ownership, and announced a May 15 old-fashioned picnic at the Bud McDonough Memorial Ballpark.

Evidence limits

The history is a newspaper retrospective and the picnic is an advance notice. The article does not provide deeds, a continuous ownership ledger, or a post-event account.

Sources

  1. Traces the store from Wilbur F. Gill's 1902 building and the Beaver Island Lumber Company's 1903 purchase through John Grill's 1915 ownership and Lloyd and Eva McDonough's May 6, 1933 purchase; it says the store passed to Bud and Skip McDonough in 1972 and was operated by Tim and Billy McDonough after Bud's 1981 death. It announces an old-fashioned May 15 picnic at the Bud McDonough Memorial Ballpark. This is a newspaper history and programme notice, not a deed, business ledger, or completed-picnic report. The holding institution's portal restricts automated access; the archive holds a copy of this issue and can provide it on request.
