Summary

The Beaver Beacon’s February-March 1980 issue (a combined bimonthly number) announces a St. Patrick’s celebration on Saturday, March 15th — a Mass, dinner, and dance with a published price schedule for adults and children. No outcome report for the 1980 event was found in the following held issue.

Program

Mass at 5:30 p.m., Dinner at 6:30 p.m., Dance at 9:00 p.m. Priced separately: $5.00 for adults attending both dinner and dance, $3.00 for adults attending either alone, and $1.50 for children under 12 for either.

Evidence limits

This is an announcement only; the April 1980 issue was checked and contains no St. Patrick’s Day recap (its only “Shamrock” mentions are an unrelated birthday party at the Shamrock Bar and an unrelated advertisement). No venue is named in the announcement, so took_place_at is left empty and spatial_status is approximate. The Beacon’s masthead identifies the paper itself as “a Publication of the Beaver Island Civic Association,” but the announcement does not itself name an organizer for the celebration, so carried_out_by is left empty rather than inferred from the masthead alone.

Open questions

  • Did the March 15, 1980 celebration take place as announced, and who organized it?
  • Is there a later 1980 issue (not held, or held but not checked here) with an outcome report?
