Summary
On March 18, 1969, the U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Sundew entered Beaver Island’s harbor to deliver supplies and fuel to the lighthouse for another navigation season. The Beacon said the mission was not harbor icebreaking. On April 5, Sundew returned to break through about 18 inches of harbor ice to reach the ferry dock while supplementing the Island’s fuel-oil supply.
Evidence and limits
This record follows the March report’s distinction between a supply visit and an icebreaking operation. It does not identify the exact lighthouse cargo.
