Summary

The March 2011 Beacon reports that St. James and Peaine Townships supported Wildlife Certification for Beaver Island and records the 2010 survey’s 31 bucks, 301 does, and 265 fawns observed during 61 driving trips. The May issue reports the related March 11 public discussion, an 83% approval survey for Antler Point Restrictions, and state and tribal officials’ emphasis on further data and volunteer partnerships. On June 9, the Wildlife Club president reported that the Antler Point Restriction plan had passed at an MDNR Natural Resources Commission meeting; the formal commission action is not preserved here.

Evidence limits

The reports describe local support, survey results, and a management discussion; they do not establish a final state certification, a complete survey methodology, or a later wildlife-management outcome.
