Summary
On October 26, volunteer pilots Mark Evans and Randy Kitzman flew Joyce and Johnny Runberg from Beaver Island to Rochester, Minnesota, through Wings of Mercy for Joyce’s scheduled hip-replacement surgery. After delivering them, the pilots carried another patient to Mount Pleasant. The Beacon reported that Joyce’s November 5 surgery went well and that the Runbergs returned to the Island on November 9.
Evidence limits
The newspaper account documents the reported flight and follow-up, not a flight log, clinical record, or independent account of the surgery. It does not name the other transported patient.
