Summary

Andrew Gallagher is named in the 1952 obituary as the only son of the Beaver Island lighthouse keeper Dominic Gallagher. The notice says Dominic had lived with Andrew in Chicago for three years before his death.

Evidence and limits

Not the same man as Andrew “Andy Mary Ellen” Gallagher (1878–1939). The two are easily confused and have been checked against sources. This Andrew was alive and living in Chicago with his father when Dominic Gallagher died there in 1952; the other died on Beaver Island on 11 October 1939, thirteen years earlier. Their parents are different couples — Dominic Gallagher and Catharine Ruddy here, Bernard “Barney” Gallagher and Mary Ellen Roddy there. A third, then-living Andrew Gallagher, retired to Williamsburg, Virginia, writes to the Beacon’s “Mail Bag” in August 1973.

The source does not provide Andrew’s birth, death, spouse, occupation, or a record that distinguishes him from other men named Andrew Gallagher.
