Summary

Carol A. (Schlactor) LaFreniere (1944–2012) married Jerry (Gerald) LaFreniere, a son of Vernon Hugh “Dick” LaFreniere (Vernon Hugh "Dick" LaFreniere), on October 16, 1965. By December 1968 the couple had built and moved into a new home on the south end of town, and Beacon items from the following January place them there with a daughter, “little Michelle,” recovering from a fall. Carol was listed as a surgical patient at Little Traverse Hospital in the August 1974 hospital notes and, that December, as a nominee for the Beaver Island Civic Association Governing Board in the announced January 1975 election.

Evidence and limits

The 1965 bridal-shower notice and the cemetery index (Carol A. Schlacter LaFreniere, 1944–2012, wife of Gerald LaFreniere) match directly, and the recurring 1968–69 “Jerry and Carol” household items corroborate the marriage. No source read for this article gives a diagnosis for the 1974 hospitalization or an election result. Whether Gerald N. LaFreniere, Jr., who received First Communion in 1975 (Gerald LaFreniere), was also her son is not stated directly by any source found, though the shared household and period fit.

Open questions

  • Was Gerald N. LaFreniere, Jr. Carol’s son? No source read here confirms it.
  • What became of the family after 1975? No later Beacon reference to Carol by name was found in the sources searched for this article.
