Lillian Isabel (MacDonald) Gregg (13 December 1924 – 13 February 2022) was elected treasurer of the Beaver Island Civic Association on January 5, 1961, the same year her family — she, her husband Philip, and their children — had settled on the island from East Lansing. Her 2022 obituary credits her as one of the founders of the Beaver Island Library and a 35-year postal clerk at the Beaver Island Post Office, alongside decades of Beaver Beacon notices that show her in civic office, chaperoning island children, and once, in January 1961, keeping firefighters supplied with coffee during a house fire.

Civic and community record

Gregg was re-elected Civic Association treasurer on January 4, 1962, and by January 1971 had moved to the position of secretary under president Bill Welke. In between, the Beacon records her as a hands-on presence with the island’s children: leading, with Loretta Malloy, Skip McDonough, and Joy Green, the girls’ youth clubs; chaperoning a January 1962 sleigh-ride party where she “found she was allergic to horses”; and, with her husband, chaperoning a May 1974 school trip to Lansing and Detroit. Evidence and limits

The 1961–1974 civic and community record is documented directly in the Beaver Beacon. The birth date, parents, marriage date, occupation, and death date come from a funeral-home obituary published on her death in 2022, directly read for this article; it is not a civil vital record. Her December 1974 appearance assisting with Christmas caroling, spelled “Lil Gregg” in that issue, is kept as its own record at Lil Gregg.
