Paid een Og’s Road is a named road on Beaver Island’s current OpenStreetMap map. One held way carries that name, and its geometry is the whole route: about 2.4 km. It meets four other named roads, listed under intersects_road.

Evidence and limits

The name and the alignment are what mappers last entered, and OpenStreetMap is volunteered work rather than a survey: it settles neither the right-of-way nor who maintains the road. Where the name came from is a separate question. Plats, road-commission minutes, and island memory answer that one. Put an older spelling from any of them into alt_names or former_names, with the source that attests it.

The 1978 Historical Map says the road was named after “Young Pat” Boyle and prints a parenthetical form rendered Páj een óg on the image. A 2025 Hall of Fame caption independently identifies Patrick “Paid Een Og” Boyle, so the person–nickname association is supported. The caption does not establish the road-naming event, and no language authority or primary family/land record has yet verified the map’s gloss. This article therefore reports “Young Pat” as the map’s explanation rather than asserting a formal translation.

This is attributed community/oral testimony that enriches the map record but does not supersede the 1978 map’s “Páj een óg” rendering or establish a linguistic authority.
