Summary

The September 2013 Beaver Beacon recounts how the Beaver Islander returned to intensive service after the larger Emerald Isle suffered an engine fire shortly before the July Fourth holiday. The issue also reports that one Emerald Isle engine was shut down as a precaution on August 23 and that the older ferry again filled in. During the first emergency, the Beaver Islander carried passengers and cargo around the clock while repairs restored the larger ferry.

Evidence limits

This retrospective account provides a narrative of the emergency season but does not replace the July issue’s contemporaneous response report or establish every repair detail.
