Monday, July 14: Music on the Porch, with Island musicians performing from 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15-16: two-part readings of Beaver Isle, the musical, a two-act play with 14 songs by David R. Hill, subtitled “Protar & Bonner up close and personal” — staged as the “Protar Days” program, held at the Print Shop Museum at 7 p.m. both evenings, cast from volunteer singers and readers recruited through the Society’s spring notices. Thursday, July 17: “Gutsy Women of Beaver Island,” billed as “Our 4th Annual recognition event of our beloved Island Matriarchs,” implying a first Gutsy Women event around 2022. The Museum Week Art Show ran at the Gregg Fellowship Hall, per the calendar, July 16-18.
Evidence limits
An early February 2025 annual report announced only a “Protar themed line-up” without dates; a March 2025 notice gave July 14-18 as the overall Museum Week span, while the later, more specific May/June event schedule gives July 14-17 for the four named program days, with the Art Show continuing through the 18th. This article uses the later, more detailed schedule as authoritative and records the earlier July 14-18 statement as a preliminary announcement rather than a second, contradictory date range. The September retrospective closes the outcome gap for Music on the Porch, but does not confirm that every other scheduled program ran or provide total attendance for Museum Week as a whole. The forum notice corroborates the Society’s advance July 14–18 / Print Shop promotion. The 2024 David Hill notices document the play’s development and recruitment before the 2025 event. The September notice calls it a 14-song presentation, while the December notice lists a set of titles whose count and arrangement do not align cleanly with the later newspaper schedule; the final program should therefore follow the later event-specific schedule while retaining the earlier forum discrepancy.
Open questions
- Did every 2025 program run as published, and how were the remaining programs received? The held recap confirms Music on the Porch but not the complete week.
- The “4th Annual” count for “Gutsy Women” implies the sub-event began around 2022, inside the 2012-2023 corpus hole; no held source documents its first three years.
