Summary

The January and February 1971 Beaver Beacon issues announced the “17th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party,” held March 6, 1971, at St. Kevin’s Parish Hall, 10513 Torrence Avenue, Chicago, for the benefit of Holy Cross Church. The March issue reported “a fine attendance” and named six island attendees.

Seventeen years back from 1971 again places the founding party in 1955 (1971 − 16 = 1955), the fifth directly stated ordinal in the held run to corroborate that year, and this edition’s ordinal chains forward exactly to the existing Eighteenth annual Chicago St. Patrick’s party for Holy Cross, 1972 the following year.

Program

Donations of $2.50 per person at St. Kevin’s Parish Hall under Rev. Bernard Scheid’s pastorate. The March report names those who attended from the island: Bing and Madonna McCafferty, Rita and Mary Gillespie, Eddie Connaghan, and Archie LaFreniere. It also carries a small human-interest note: Lucille Gillespie Osborn of Iowa had planned to attend with her family but broke her arm the night before leaving and could not travel; her family attended the party without her.

Evidence limits

“A fine attendance” is qualitative; no attendance count or proceeds total is given for this edition.
