Summary
In 1899, the U.S. Fish Commission identified Beaver Island among the upper Lake Michigan grounds receiving particular attention for lake-trout egg collection. Its reported collection stations were elsewhere, and weather plus the close season prevented the longer operations that the agency thought could have produced a large Beaver Island collection.
Evidence and limits
This record is deliberately about planning and an unrealized potential, not a fish collection. It does not establish a Beaver Island station, agency personnel on the island, egg total, hatchery output attributed to the island, or fishery catch.
