Summary

Sweet’s Mill was a late-nineteenth-century lumber mill associated in local research notes with Big Sand Bay and the end of Hannigan’s Road. A contemporary July 1889 Charlevoix Sentinel notice says a worker was leaving East Jordan for the Beaver Islands to take a job at Sweet’s mill. Helen Collar’s compiled notes place the operation more specifically on Beaver Island, say Patrick Maloney was killed there in 1891, and associate George Sweet with timber land behind Martin’s Bluff.

The 1978 History Map independently places the label near Big Sand Bay. That agreement supports the broad locality, but no mill deed, plat, archaeological survey, or contemporary casualty report was found. The article therefore carries no point geometry and treats the 1891 death detail as a research lead rather than established fact.

It proves an operating Sweet-named mill in the island group but does not give the exact island or site. No public copy of this file is known; the archive holds one and can provide it on request.
