Summary
USGS Open-File Report 03-120 preserves a held collection of 2001 SHOALS airborne-lidar bathymetry and albedo surveys, published in 2003, for six northern-Lake-Michigan reef and coastal areas. Five of the named areas are in or immediately adjacent to the Beaver Island archipelago: Boulder Reef, Dahlia Shoals/Ile aux Galets, Gull Island Reef, High Island, Hog Island, and Trout Island and Shoal.
Evidence and limits
The collection gives a dated technical survey context: August 2001 ground condition; 4-m gridded products; and metadata reporting approximately +/- 3 m horizontal and +/- 15 cm vertical accuracy (one sigma). It was made for bathymetry and albedo use in habitat studies. The metadata’s bounding boxes are data-coverage envelopes, not boundaries of an island, reef, ownership, habitat, or fishing ground. The historical data are not a current hydrographic chart and must not be used for safety-critical navigation.

- Held collection includes public-domain ASCII XYZ and gridded data plus FGDC metadata for Boulder Reef, Dahlia Shoals/Ile aux Galets, Gull Island Reef, High Island, Hog Island, and Trout Island and Shoal. - Records August 2001 ground condition, SHOALS method, survey coverage, and stated horizontal (+/- 3 m, 1 sigma) and vertical (+/- 15 cm, 1 sigma) accuracy. Coverage is not an island boundary.federal · noaa_bathymetry · usgs_ofr_2003_120 · metadata · highmeta
- Records the same 2001 SHOALS method and habitat-study purpose for the Hog Island survey area; it does not establish present conditions, access, ownership, or a navigational route.federal · noaa_bathymetry · usgs_ofr_2003_120 · metadata · hogmeta
