Summary
On 22 September 2025, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced two Beaver Island proposals: additional antlerless firearm deer seasons for the 2026–2028 seasons and approximately 240 acres of forest-diversity projects on state-managed land. The announcement said the proposals addressed elevated deer density, impacts on sensitive vegetation and forest regeneration, and outcomes identified in the 2022 Beaver Island Implementation Plan.
The forest proposal described seven projects intended to regenerate deciduous species including aspen, birch, and maple and to improve age-class diversity and wildlife habitat.
