Summary
The September 1965 Beaver Beacon began reprinting Hugh Harley’s “Traveller” articles from the Donegal Democrat. Harley, writing from County Donegal, framed Beaver Island as an Irish-connected “Emerald Isles” and described the correspondence and family links that connected Donegal communities with island settlers. The issue also began a separate “Gweedore Evictions” account about landlord George Hill, the Gallagher family, and emigration to the United States.
Evidence and limits
This is a communication and publication record: the Beacon says the excerpt is the first of a planned series of eight. It preserves Harley’s account and the Beacon’s editorial note, but does not prove that all eight installments appeared, that the cited Donegal events occurred exactly as narrated, or that the article’s figures and family connections are a complete migration record.
