Summary

The 2009 “Bite of Beaver Island” ran Saturday, October 3 — described by the Charlevoix Courier as the event’s “ninth year.” The day’s program split across three points: the Island Boodle 5K starting at 10:00 a.m. from the Beachcomber (rather than the Shamrock, the prior years’ start point), an Arts and Crafts show opening at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Center, and the food festival itself, or “feasting,” beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Hall.1

Program

The October preview lays out the full weekend: “Beaver Tales,” an original Island stage production of songs, poems, and anecdotes, played its last show October 2 at 8 p.m.; the Boodle started October 3 at 10:00 a.m. from the Beachcomber; the Community Center hosted an Arts and Crafts show from 11:00 a.m.; and the Holy Cross Hall feast began at 1:00 p.m.1 A separate “Paddle for Food” fundraising talk on October 10, about a kayaker’s 85-mile journey to benefit the Beaver Island Food Pantry, appears in the same issue but is a distinct event, not part of the Bite of Beaver program.1 A jewelry vendor’s September ad placed her at “Bite of Beaver Island… Community Ctr” that day, corroborating the multi-site format documented for this period.2

Evidence limits

Four Beacon issues (February, September, October, December 2009) and one Charlevoix Courier bound-volume mention this year’s event. A web-research finding not independently re-read in full — reported on the hub article — separately states this year’s Island Boodle proceeds benefited the Beaver Island Sports Boosters; that claim is not repeated here as established, only noted as consistent with the hub’s caveat.
