Summary
Charles J. Strang was a son of James Jesse Strang and Elvira Field who later preserved and supplied family material about his father. In 1895 he is credited as the source of the Beaver Island chapter in The Ottawan, 1895, and a 1902 newspaper identifies him as a printer employed by the State printers and binders.
Evidence and limits
The name, relationship, family-document work, 1895 contribution, and 1902 occupational report are separately attributable. They do not establish his birth or death dates, complete residence history, denominational affiliation, the contents or present location of all family papers, or an eyewitness role in the 1850s events described in later accounts. The record is consequently marked probable rather than treating family-mediated testimony as a comprehensive biography.
Significance
Later accounts of the Strang settlement run in part through Charles J. Strang, a documented family compiler and contributor. Claims drawn from his materials are therefore not independent of the family that supplied them.
