Summary

The May–June 1975 Beaver Tales continuation identifies the Bruce as a steamer placed on the Beaver Island run after the Columbia’s 1917 loss. It also preserves the reported earlier names A. J. Yattaw and Ogontz and a reported service span through 1920.

Evidence and limits

The dimensions, number, power, and renaming sequence come from a retrospective with “scanty information.” The record does not claim a registry or service log.

Sources

  1. Reports Bruce as a 1892 Chicago-built steamer carrying vessel number 77049, 66 gross tons and 44 net tons, 225 horsepower, 78.7-foot length, 19.9-foot beam, and an 8.5-foot reported draw. It says the vessel began as A. J. Yattaw from Grand Haven, was renamed Ogontz, and was renamed Bruce by Harry L. Oldham in Charlevoix. These are retrospective figures, not an audited registry record.
