Summary
Cable Bay is a named bay on Beaver Island’s southwest coast. GNIS records the variant “Gable Bay” and a T121 feature description saying that John Cable owned a dock and store near the bay during the 1840s and 1850s. A separate October 1965 Beaver Beacon retrospective says that Irish arrivals found work in a lumber camp operated by James Cable and identifies the present Cable’s Bay as named for him. The two sources disagree on the forename, so this article keeps the name origin probable rather than silently choosing John or James.
